Dik Browne
Dik Browne (actually Richard Arthur Allan Browne ) (born August 11, 1917 , according to other sources 1918 in New York , † June 4, 1989 in Sarasota , Florida ) was an American comic artist.
Until 1942 Browne worked as an illustrator for Newsweek and from 1946 as a draftsman for the advertising agency Johnstone and Cushing. There, he developed the logo for Chiquita - Bananas .
On May 10, 1942, he married his wife, Joan, with whom he worked for the New York News .
In 1954, Browne began his comic Hi and Lois based on an idea from comic artist Mort Walker . In Germany, the strips were published as the Gong family in the television magazine Gong in the 1970s .
In 1973 he created another comic series, Hägar the Terrible , which appeared in over 1900 newspapers in 58 countries around the world and was reprinted in numerous book editions.
His son Chris Browne has been running Hägar since 1988 .
Award
In 1984, Dik Browne received the Max and Moritz Prize for Hägar as the best international comic strip artist.
