from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dilek Gürsoy (born December 6, 1976 in Neuss ) is a German doctor specializing in cardiac surgery . She is considered an expert in the field of mechanical circulatory support systems and in 2012 was the first woman in Europe to perform an artificial heart implantation on a patient .

Life

Gürsoy was born in Neuss in 1976 as one of three children of a Turkish guest worker family. Her father died of sudden cardiac death when she was ten years old, so her mother raised her and her two brothers alone. After graduating from the Quirinus Gymnasium in Neuss , she studied human medicine at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . She received her doctorate in 2008 with the work The importance of the coagulation and complement system in the development of a "systemic inflammatory response syndrome" (SIRS) after interventions with the help of extracorporeal circulation (EKZ).

After completing her studies, she worked as an assistant, specialist and senior physician in the team of cardiac surgeon Reiner Körfer , in whose ongoing research she is involved in an artificial heart without an external cable or drive system. Between autumn 2016 and summer 2019, Gürsoy switched between different clinics and worked, among other things, as a division manager.

In 2019 she was involved in a campaign by the Ministry of Family and Integration in North Rhine-Westphalia, #IchDuWirNRW, as a role model and positive example for the successful immigration society . In addition, she is involved in various associations, including as a mentor for the Women into Leadership initiative and as a campaign ambassador for the Deutschlandstiftung Integration .
