Pure Körfer

Reiner Paul Körfer (born January 18, 1942 in Kleve ) is a German heart surgeon .

Life

Körfer studied medicine at the University of Bonn . From 1969 to 1972 he worked in general surgery at St. Josef Hospital in Oberhausen . From 1972 he worked at the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Düsseldorf , from 1975 he was a member of the teaching staff. Körfer completed his habilitation in 1979 and was appointed private lecturer. Since 1983 he has been professor for surgery and in particular for thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Düsseldorf.

From 1984 to the end of January 2009 he was Medical Director of the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia , Bad Oeynhausen (where he met Ulrich Gleichmann , whom he knew from his time at the University of Düsseldorf), as well as director of the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery at the Ruhr University Bochum .

Since May 2009 Reiner Körfer has been medical director at Herzzentrum Essen GmbH. After the company's insolvency, Körfer canceled his contract on July 1, 2010.

Together with his long-time senior physician G. Tenderich and some employees, Reiner Körfer is now in the process of expanding the spectrum of the Duisburg Heart Center to include the possibilities of artificial heart care and transplantation. This cardiac surgery department is located at the Duisburg-Fahrn location of the Evangelical and Johanniter Klinikum Niederrhein. All other types of cardiac surgery are also performed here.

Reiner Körfer has been doing volunteer work in the Ukraine for years , where he operates on people with heart disease free of charge and passes on his knowledge to local doctors. He has been a member of the supervisory board since 2006 and chairman of Borussia Mönchengladbach since 2012 .
