Dima Slobodeniouk or Slobodenjuk (Димa Слободенюк; * 1975 in Moscow as Дмитрий Dmitri ) is a Russian-Finnish conductor .

Life

Slobodeniouk comes from a musical family, his father and grandfather played the viola in the Philharmonic Orchestra, and his mother is a pianist. After the collapse of the Soviet Union at the age of 16, he moved to Finland at the suggestion of his father, where he has been chief conductor of the Sinfonia Lahti since 2016 . In 2013 he became director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia in La Coruña . He began his training as a violinist at the Moscow Conservatory at the age of 14 , graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and then trained as a conductor. In 1999 he conducted a symphony concert for the first time. As a guest conductor he has been in Boston, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Vienna, Munich, Tokyo, Minnesota, Lucerne and with the radio orchestras in Stuttgart and Cologne. In February 2018 he conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first time . He enjoys conducting contemporary works, including world premieres, for which he sees himself as the composer's ambassador and representative for the audience .

In the context of the Grammy Awards 2014 he was nominated for Holmboe: Concerto in the category Grammy Award for Best Classical Compendium .
