The Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Ger .: Galician Symphony Orchestra , abbr .: OSG ) is a Spanish symphony orchestra .

history

It was founded in 1992 by the A Coruña City Council and is located in the Palacio de la Ópera in that city. The artistic director until 2013 was Víctor Pablo Pérez , who was replaced by the Russian conductor Dima Slobodeniouk . The main guest conductor was Jesús López Cobos .

From 2003 to 2005 the orchestra was the resident orchestra of the Rossini Festival of Pesaro and the Mozart Festival of A Coruña since its inception in 1998. The orchestra also toured Germany and Austria and gave concerts in concert halls in Spain. In 2007 it toured South America for the first time, with concerts in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. At the end of 2009 it performed in the historical hall of the Musikverein in Vienna .

In the discography for labels such as EMI, DECCA, Koch, Naïve or BMG and Arts, Juan Diego Flórez , Kaori Muraji , Peter Maag , Antonio Meneses , Manuel Barrueco - with whom they were nominated for the 2007 Grammy for the best classical album of the year was -, María Bayo , Plácido Domingo , Joan Pons or Ewa Podleś .

The orchestra was awarded the gold medal of the Real Academia Galega de Bellas Artes and is Premio Cultura Galega da Música 2010.

It is funded by the A Coruña City Council, the A Coruña County Council and the Xunta de Galicia .

In parallel with its usual activity, it has a choir and an educational project called Son Futuro, which includes a youth orchestra, a children's orchestra, a youth choir and a children's choir (Niños Cantores).
