The Sinfonia Lahti is a Finnish orchestra .

The orchestra goes back to the foundation of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Lahtis in 1910 and has existed in its current form since 1949 under the administration of the Lahti municipality. The main venue for the orchestra is the Sibelius Hall in Lahti , which was inaugurated in 2000 .

Osmo Vänskä became principal guest conductor of the Sinfonia Lahti in 1985, and in 1988 he was appointed chief conductor to succeed Ulf Söderblom . Under his leadership the orchestra developed into one of the most renowned orchestras in Scandinavia. In addition to other international awards, the Sinfonia Lahti, conducted by Vänskäs, received the Gramophone Award in 1991 and 1996 for recording the original versions of Sibelius ' Violin Concerto and his 5th Symphony . In addition to weekly concerts in Lahti, the orchestra regularly performs in Helsinki and also gives international concerts. Regular CD recordings are made for the BIS Records label . In 1992 Kalevi Aho was appointed composer in residence with the orchestra, which has recorded many of his works. The orchestra has also initiated a musical support program for children and young people.

Vänskä resigned his position as chief conductor in 2008 and was appointed honorary conductor. Jukka-Pekka Saraste then acted as the orchestra's artistic advisor. From 2011 to 2016 the management was in the hands of Okko Kamu . Dima Slobodeniouk has been chief conductor since 2016 .
