Diminishing Returns is a mix album by DJ Shadow , which stylistically can be assigned to turntablism . It is essentially based on a live mix broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on March 29, 2003. The intro was spoken by John Peel .

Diminishing Returns consists of two parts, DJ Shadow for the first part mainly records from the genre of hip-hop and for the second part in particular those from the genre of rock together mixed. In the first part, the scratching technique is quite dominant.
Most of the artists who recorded the original songs used by DJ Shadow are rather unknown; But there are also some very well-known musicians such as OutKast or Frank Zappa to be heard.
The two parts of the mix album are supplemented by a bonus track that was not part of the original live mix - War Is Hell . This is an in- house production by DJ Shadow, which is most likely to be assigned to the trip-hop genre.
Publications
The recording of the live mix, including the bonus track, was officially released for the first time in 2003 under the name Diminishing Returns Party Pak by the Reconstruction Productions label on two CDs . This edition was limited and numbered. In 2009 the album was re-released as Diminishing Returns on CD and MP3 by the same label, with the same tracklist but a different cover . In addition, various bootlegs have been in circulation since 2003 , presumably generated from the radio broadcast and from promo CDs .

The music database Allmusic has Diminishing Returns with four and a half stars out of five.
Trivia
In the liner notes of the second edition of Diminishing Returns , DJ Shadow wrote: "Dedicated with full respect to the memory of John Peel."
