Grand Duke Dmitry Konstantinovich Romanov ( Russian Дмитрий Константинович Романов ; born June 1 . Jul / 13. June  1860 greg. In Strelna in Saint Petersburg , † thirtieth January 1919 in Petrograd ) was a member of the House of Romanov-Holstein-Gottorp .

Life

Dmitri was the fifth child of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolajewitsch Romanow (1827-1892) and his wife Princess Alexandra von Sachsen-Altenburg (1830-1911) (Grand Duchess Alexandra Iosifowna Romanowa), daughter of Duke Joseph von Sachsen-Altenburg and Princess Amalie von Württemberg . Through his father, Dmitri was a grandson of the Russian Tsar Nicholas I.

On 29 January 1919 he was in the Peter and Paul Fortress relocated where it the next day along with his cousins Pavel Alexandrovich Romanov , Nikolai Mikhailovich Romanov and Georgi Mikhailovich Romanov shot was. The bodies of the other three grand dukes were thrown into a mass grave in the fortress; however, the remains of Dmitri Konstantinowitsch were carried away in a carpet by his former adjutant von Leiming the next morning and buried in the garden of a private house in Petrograd, where they are still located today. In 2011, Russian archaeologists reported that excavations in the Peter and Paul Fortress likely found the graves of the grand dukes by chance.
