Dina Vierny

Dina Vierny (born January 25, 1919 in Chișinău , Romania , today Moldova , † January 20, 2009 in Paris ) was a French art dealer, art collector, museum director and art model .

Dina Vierny grew up as a child of a Jewish family in Bessarabia . At the age of 15 she became a model and muse for the then 73-year-old sculptor Aristide Maillol . For Maillol, Vierny was the main source of inspiration for the last ten years of his life. Vierny also stood as a model for Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard .

After Maillol's death Vierny collected his sculptures as well as the works of contemporaries such as Henri Matisse , Pierre Bonnard , Marcel Duchamp , Wassily Kandinsky , Ilya Kabakov and Vladimir Yankilevsky . These are exhibited today in the Musée Maillol in Paris, which she donated .
