Dinetus is the only genus of Dinetinae within the digger wasp family Crabronidae . It comprises eight species worldwide. In Europe the genus is only represented by Dinetus pictus . The seven other species of the genus are distributed in North Africa from Morocco to Egypt and in southern Russia. Some authors assign the genus to the subfamily Astatinae .
features
Dinetus females, like the species of Astatinae, have two spores on the rails ( tibia ) of the middle legs, and they have the same wing veining on the hind wings.
Way of life
Very little is known about the way of life of the Dinetus species. The males, like those of the Astatinae, can be observed as they lurk in exposed places on the ground waiting to sit. The brood is also supplied with bedbugs .
