2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene

In chemistry, the dinitrochlorobenzenes form a group of aromatic compounds that are derived from both dinitrobenzenes and chlorobenzene . The structure consists of a benzene ring with two attached nitro groups  (–NO ₂ ) and chlorine  (–Cl) as substituents . Their different arrangement results in six constitutional isomers with the empirical formula C ₆ H ₃ ClN ₂ O ₄ . All substances are practically insoluble and toxic in water. They decompose when heated, and an explosive reaction is possible.

All dinitrochlorobenzenes are used as reagents for alkylation , arylation and substitution reactions and as intermediates in the production of dyes , photochemicals, explosives , fungicides and rubber chemicals.
