Konstantinos "Dinos" Michailidis ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος Μιχαηλίδης , born December 26, 1937 in Limassol , Cyprus ; † April 6, 2020 in Athens ) was a Cypriot politician .

biography

Michailidis entered the diplomatic service in 1961 after completing his studies and was most recently minister in the presidential office during the term of office of President Spyros Kyprianou until 1985. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was then Minister of the Interior for the first time from 1985 to 1988 .

In 1991 he became a candidate for the Dimokratiko Komma (DIKO) for a member of the House of Representatives (Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων). In 1993 President Glafkos Klerides again appointed him Minister of the Interior in his government. In 1997 he resigned as Minister of the Interior after the DIKO, chaired by Spyros Kyprianou, had left the coalition government with the Dimokratikos Synagermos (DISY) von Klerides as a partner .

Four months later, however, Michailidis was again Minister of the Interior in the Klerides cabinet in early 1998, but resigned again in 1999 after he was accused of corruption this time . The cabinet acquitted him despite the existence of an independent report. This report challenged the city planning authority's decision to amend a development plan after a luxury home was later built by Michailidis in the planning area. The city planning authority was part of the responsibility of the ministry. First, he withdrew his resignation when Klerides refused to accept it. Ultimately, he resigned after government spokesman Christos Stylianides had surprisingly resigned the day before , criticizing Michailidis' acquittal in the cabinet.
