AB Dirbtinis pluoštas was the largest yarn producing company in Lithuania , based in Kaunas . The company employed 3,200 people (1981). It was listed on the Vilnius Stock Exchange.
history
In 1960 construction began on the plant in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic . It became Spalio 50-mečio dirbtinio pluošto gamykla . As of 1965 they produced acetyl - cellulose fibers . In 1981 the company produced yarn worth 70 million rubles. They exported to twelve republics of the Soviet Union and to Cuba . Later the company became Kauno valstybinė dirbtinio pluošto gamykla . The Russian-born entrepreneur Vladimiras Romanovas bought the company for so-called investment checks. On December 14, 1992 Akcinė bendrovė "Dirbtinis pluoštas" was established. They exported to EU countries. With a subsidiary "Syntraco International SpA" in Italy , 30% of the production was realized in Spain , Italy, Germany , France , Belgium and other European countries. In 1997 the company achieved sales of 238.7 million litas (69.13 million euros) and a profit of 7.5 million litas.
The company had its own cultural center (now the Girstutis cultural center ). On March 3, 1993, it was registered as Kauno akcinės bendrovės “Dirbtinis pluoštas” Kultūros ir sveikatingumo rūmai “Girstutis” and was deregistered on May 2, 2003 after the company went bankrupt. In 2000 there was a loss of 48 million litas (11.87 million euros ). In 2001 a turnover of 41 million litas was achieved. At that time there were 650 employees. It had 293 million litas in debt. On June 13, 2001, the bankruptcy proceedings were opened in the Kaunas District Court and later closed. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against Romanov . On January 13, 2010 UAB "Dirbtinis pluoštas" was dissolved due to liquidation .
Korelita
One of the successor companies of AB “Dirbtinis pluoštas” was UAB “Korelita” (director Martynas Ugianskis). Today (2014) its capacity is up to 8000 tons of yarn per year. The company UAB “Aneka” owns 48.31% of the shares in UAB “Korelita”. “Korelita” is connected to the administrative bodies and management of the bank Ūkio bankas ( Vladimiras Romanovas , his sister Olga Gončaruk and Gintaras Ugianskis, former head of Ūkio bankas).
