Dirk Boest Gips (born July 30, 1864 in Dordrecht , † November 11, 1920 in The Hague ) was a Dutch sports shooter .
successes
Dirk Boest Gips, who worked as a stockbroker, took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris with the free pistol . In the individual competition he finished sixth with 437 points, while he won the bronze medal in the team competition with Antonius Bouwens , Henrik Sillem , Solko van den Bergh and Anthony Sweijs . The Olympic competition also counted as a world championship .
Surname
Gips' real name was unknown for many years. In the results lists he was listed as M. van Laan , later only as Van Haan or even Gerardus van Haan . It wasn't until 1999 that the real name was discovered by a Dutch historian in a regional newspaper from 1900.
