Dirk Lohr

Dirk Löhr (born October 7, 1964 in Essen ) is a German economist . Löhr is professor for taxation and ecological economics at the Trier University of Applied Sciences , Environmental Campus Birkenfeld . He also worked as a private lecturer at the Ruhr University Bochum (waiver 2013).

Life

After studying social and economic sciences at the Ruhr University in Bochum , Dirk Löhr did his doctorate on the subject of company valuation . His habilitation thesis dealt with corporate succession strategies.

Initially, Löhr worked as a research assistant and at the same time as a freelancer for a tax consulting company. In 2001 he accepted a one-year visiting professorship at the BTU Cottbus , where he represented economics, especially environmental economics . Since 2001 he has also worked as a tax advisor in a Heidelberg law firm. Löhr also teaches in a private academy for the training of property experts. He is a member of the expert committee for the determination of property values ​​of the district of Birkenfeld (since 2012: Rheinhessen-Nahe), member of the upper expert committee of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and spokesman in the Center for Land Research. In addition to his professional activity, Löhr is involved as a speaker at institutions that are committed to the free-economic ideas of Silvio Gesell , the work of Henry George and ordoliberalism . Since 1997 he has been a board member of the Social Science Society 1950 e. V. He is known as the author of a number of benevolent and critical essays on free economy. In 1988 Dirk Löhr was awarded the Karl Walker Prize by the Foundation for Reform of Monetary and Land Order “for scientific work on the independence of the financial markets from the real economy and ways to overcome unemployment”. The prize is named after one of Silvio Gesell's most important students. In 2015 he received an Outstanding Paper Award for the article "The hidden rent seeking capacity of corporations", which was published in the International Journal of Social Economics. This article shows that the business models of the largest and most successful corporations are based on the appropriation of economic rents at the expense of the general public. He is also one of the initiators of the Cusanus University, which pursues heterodox economic approaches. He is also a member of the Society for Socio-Economic Education and Science (GSÖBW) and the Research Advisory Board for Economy for the Common Good.

One focus of Dirk Löhr's work is land policy. He is a co-initiator and one of the first signatories of the " Property Tax: Contemporary! " Initiative founded in 2012 , which advocates the introduction of a land value tax in Germany. In 2013 he was elected Vice President of the International Union for Land Value Taxation for Germany. Löhr reissued the main work of the American land reformer Henry George, "Progress and Poverty", in 2017 after it was no longer available in Germany for decades. In 2018 and 2019 he was a member of the specialist dialogue on heritable building rights organized by the Federal Ministry of the Interior with the participation of the Federal Institute for Building, Urban and Spatial Research (BBSR) and the German Association for Housing, Urban Development and Spatial Planning (Berlin).
