Dirk Sterckx

Dirk Sterckx (born September 25, 1946 in Herent ) is a Belgian politician for the Open Vlaamse Liberalen en Democrats (Open VLD) party. From July 1999 to September 2001 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Sterckx studied German at the University of Ghent and graduated in 1969 with a licentiate . He then worked as a teacher for Dutch , English and German at secondary schools in the Antwerp area .

In 1975, Sterckx went to the Belgian Radio and Televisieomroep (BRT) (now VRT ) television station , where he worked as a journalist . From 1980 he was the BRT correspondent for the European Community . In 1986 Sterckx became the final editor of the news program " VRT-journaal ", which he moderated from 1996, and in 1994 he became the final editor and presenter of the information program " Terzake ".

In 1999, Sterckx was elected to the European Parliament and confirmed in office in the 2004 European elections . He is a member of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe , chairman of the delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China and a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs and the Committee on Transport and Tourism.

Sterckx has been a member of Lint's municipal council since 2001 . From February to June 2004 he was chairman of the Vlaamse Liberalen en Democrats.
