Dirty Games is a German documentary film by the journalist and filmmaker Benjamin Best from 2016. Dirty Games opened in German cinemas on June 2, 2016. The documentary was broadcast on ARD on September 25, 2016.

content

The film deals with human rights violations in the context of major sporting events, such as the soccer world championships in Brazil in 2014 and Qatar in 2022 , as well as manipulation in soccer, boxing and in the American professional basketball league NBA .

criticism

"Dirty Games" is an [...] appeal to sports fans. Because the film shows what we somehow know and like to suppress as soon as an Olympic fire is lit and a soccer World Cup kicks off. (ARD title, theses, temperaments)

“Impressive documentary that one wishes a lot of viewers. That could be difficult, however, because it is not yet clear whether Best's film will also be shown on German television after its cinema release ... "(Zeit Online)

The strength of "Dirty Games": The film does not ask for the headline, instead it shows the perversion that has become everyday, the constant violation of the law. (FAZ)

“Dirty Games” takes a revealing look behind the glossy backdrop of world sport. [...] No paradise of purity and fair play. "(Süddeutsche Zeitung)

“Each episode shows a different hardship in this world, which is all the more evident because it can develop in peace. The shots are long, the pictures are often breathtakingly beautiful. The documentary develops tremendous emotional power in the 90 minutes. You could almost speak of a cinematic pamphlet if that didn't sound so old-fashioned. "(NDR ZAPP)
