Dirty Pretty Things were a British music group led by Libertines members Carl Barât and Gary Powell .

history

The Dirty Pretty Things consisted of the members Carl Barât (vocals, guitar), Gary Powell (drums) and Didz Hammond (bass) and Anthony Rossomando (guitar). They were founded in 2005 by Carl Barat, Gary Powell and Anthony Rossomando, who represented Pete Doherty on guitar at concerts at the end of the Libertines . Didz Hammond is a former member of The Cooper Temple Clause .

The debut single, Bang Bang You're Dead , reached # 5 in the UK Top 40 in May 2006; their first album, Waterloo To Anywhere , was released in the same month . In November of the same year, the DVD Puffing On A Coffin Nail (Live At The Forum) was released. The DVD contains live performances by the band in London, Paris and Rome as well as making-ofs of the videos.

Actually, they should have appeared in 2006 as support for the Swedish rock band Mando Diao in Germany, but they had to cancel all German dates until further notice. They have been replaced by Razorlight . Mando Diao toured the UK that same year as the opening act for Dirty Pretty Things. On Mando Diao's ode-to-open-air tour in summer 2007, what had not worked the year before was made up for. The Dirty Pretty Things played as support for the Swedes at two concerts in Germany. In 2007 the band also played in support of Muse and the Red Hot Chili Peppers .

On October 1st, 2008 the band announced in a message on their website that they wanted to break up after the tour in autumn 2008, as it was time to try new things. Unofficially, however, the band was dissolved due to unsuccessfulness.
