Distomo ( Greek Δίστομο ( n. Sg. )) Is a small town in Boeotia at the foot of the Parnassus Mountains in the municipality of Distomo-Arachova-Andikyra in the Central Greece region . In the vicinity of the place is the monastery of Hosios Lukas from Byzantine times.
Distomo was the site of the Distomo massacre during World War II . On June 10, 1944, members of a regiment of the 4th SS Police Panzer Grenadier Division shot all 218 of the 1,800 residents left in the village, including several children and babies. Today a memorial commemorates the victims. All claims for compensation were dismissed by German courts.
Until 2010, Distomo formed an independent municipality together with Paralia Distomou and Agios Nikolaos. Since the administrative reform , the former municipality has had the status of a municipality in the newly created municipality of Distomo-Arachova-Andikyra with Distomo as the administrative seat.
