Ditmar skull

Ditmar Skull (* 1960 in Stade ) is a German photographer , photo educator, university professor and author of various specialist articles on photography. He became known in the 1990s through long-term photographic observations of the changes in the former GDR .

From 1986 to 1995 he taught as a research assistant at the University of Hildesheim , since 1995 he has been a lecturer at the University of Duisburg-Essen , where he oversees the field of art and design in the engineering department. Since 2010 he has been chairman of the German Society for Photography , Cologne .

Life

After graduating from high school, Ditmar Topf studied cultural education at the University of Hildesheim. This model course of study met his experiences and expectations of interdisciplinarity and freedom of choice from high school under the Buxtehude model . In 1986 he completed his studies with a focus on visual arts, literature and media education with a diploma.

From 1987 he worked as a research assistant, since 1989 as a research assistant at the University of Hildesheim and together with Klaus Dierßen he built up the photography department. In the years 1989–1995 he held several teaching positions at universities, for example at the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences for photography and screen printing, and worked in educational institutions of a trade union and in adult education centers. After moving to the University of Duisburg-Essen, he had teaching assignments at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Mönchengladbach and organized several exhibition projects in the cubus Kunsthalle Duisburg, in the Rheinische Kliniken in Bedburg-Hau and in Düsseldorf.   

Ditmar skull is an appointed member of the German Society for Photography (DGPh), was for many years on the board of the education section and has been chairman of the executive board of the DGPh since 2010. He is also a member of the advisory board of the Friedrichshain Photo Gallery in Berlin and of the organization team for the RAW Photo Triennial in Worpswede.
