Divandu albimarginatus is an African cichlid species that occurs in Gabon and the Republic of Congo in the Kouilou-Niari and Loeme / Loukene river basins as well as in Nyanga and the upper Ngounié . The generic name Divandu is derived from the common name used in Mayombe for fish. The specific epithet albimarginatus refers to the white edge of the caudal fin in prepared specimens.

features

Divandu albimarginatus can reach a length of 12 cm and is a relatively high-backed cichlid. The body height reaches 27.8 to 40.2% of the standard length , with larger specimens being particularly high-backed. The head length is 31.9 to 37.2% of the standard length. The muzzle is usually shorter than the head area behind the eyes. The outer and inner rows of teeth are set with single-pointed teeth. The tail stalk is higher than it is long and is surrounded by a total of 12 rows of scales. The scales on the throat are significantly smaller than on the rest of the body. The first pelvic ray is the longest and reaches or extends beyond the anus. The pectoral fins are slightly shorter than the pelvic fins.

Divandu albimarginatus is light brown in color, with the throat and belly being lighter. There are usually 6 to 7 vertical bands visible on the sides of the body. Further markings are a spot on the gill cover and reddish-black spots on the caudal fin and on the soft-rayed sections of the dorsal and anal fin, which are often arranged in rows. The edges of the dorsal, anal and ventral fins and the upper edge of the caudal fin are red. The lower edge of the caudal fin is white. A whitish-silvery band lies beneath the reddish edge of the soft-rayed section of the dorsal fin. There is no gender dimorphism in terms of coloration.

Way of life

Divandu albimarginatus lives in clear water in the upper and lower sections of rivers that flow through primary and secondary forests . The water of the home waters has a temperature of 21 to 22 ° C, a pH value of 7 to 7.5 and a conductivity of 50 µS . Chromidotilapia mamonekenei , which is more common there, occurs in the same habitat . Divandu albimarginatus is a polygamous , ovophilic , maternal mouthbrooder (i.e. the female takes the eggs in her mouth).

Systematics

Genus and species were in 2000 by the Austrian ichthyologists Anton Lamboj and his Belgian colleague Jos Snoeks described and since then Divandu albimarginatus the only type of order monotypical remained genre.

Danger

In the Red List of the IUCN of the status of the species is given as safely (Least Concern).
