content

Tomoki Sakai ( 坂 井 知 季 ) got excited about diving in elementary school when he saw Yōichi Fujitani ( 富士 谷 要 一 ) training at the Mizuki Diving Club (MDC). Now in middle school, Tomoki is a member of the club himself and is already jumping off the 10-meter board with his peers Reiji and Ryō. The club is led by coach Keisuke Fujitani ( 富士 谷 敬 介 ), the father of Yōichi, who is now counted among the best young jumpers in the country. The middle school students have only followed their training half-heartedly, but with the new coach Kayoko Asaki ( 麻木 夏陽 子 ) the club is facing a new challenge: If one of the members is not nominated for the Olympic Games, the club will be closed by the sponsor. After the first shock and some hesitation as well as the motivation from the new trainer, Tomoki is determined to face the task like Yōichi.

Soon Asaki is also bringing a new athlete to the club: Shibuki Okitsu ( 沖 津 飛沫 ). The youth from the provinces is the grandson of a famous high diver who was unsuccessful in the games of his time. Shibuki was taught to jump into the sea by his grandfather and is now struggling with jumping into the pool. His style is raw and dynamic and impresses the other club members. Training together with other successful young high divers also motivates the middle school students in the club. But after a while, Reiji and Ryō find that they are not making as well as Tomoki. The friendship of the three is put to the test by the rivalry. Ryō finally gives up and leaves the club, Reiji reduces his expectations. So absorbed in his training, Tomoki loses his girlfriend to his brother, who has more time for her.

The club's three hopes, Yōichi, Shibuki and now Tomoki, train hard for the qualifying competitions. Shibuki has to meet the expectations of the jury without his jumps losing their special character. In addition, he was injured in his hip, so that he was not nominated and put off for the next games in order to recover by then. Tomoki now has doubts about the goal of participating in the Olympics, but then sets his own goals and ambitiously trains new jumps in order to fall out of the ordinary. He overdoes it so much that he injures himself. Yōichi also had doubts about the sense of participating after he was nominated in advance. He does not want to submit to the will of the organizers and rejects the nomination. Only after a qualifying competition, for which he now finds the motivation again and trains beyond his limits, he and Tomoki are selected as participants in the games, along with some equally well-qualified rivals.
