Djimi Traoré (born March 1, 1980 in Saint-Ouen , France ) is a former French - Malian soccer player and current coach who played for the Seattle Sounders .

Since 2016 he has been an assistant coach for the Seattle Sounders.

Career

Traoré's first professional club was Stade Laval . In 1999, the left-back moved to Liverpool for the first time . In 2001 he went back to France for RC Lens . Since the beginning of the 2002/03 season, Traore played again for Liverpool.

He moved from Liverpool to Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2006 for 2.8 million euros . Half a year later he left Charlton and joined Portsmouth FC . In January 2008 he was loaned to Stade Rennes for the remainder of the season . In February 2009 he was loaned to Birmingham City for three months , but was only able to play three games due to an injury.

In the summer of 2009 he moved to AS Monaco , where he became a regular player. In the winter of 2010 he tore a cruciate ligament and was out for the rest of the season.

After his contract expired and AS Monaco was relegated to Ligue 2 , he moved to Olympique Marseille on a free transfer . There he spent two seasons without being able to earn a regular place and left the club in summer 2012.

Traore has played six times for the Mali national soccer team.
