The Dolina Długa , formed by glaciers in the Ice Age, is a valley in the Polish Western Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . It is located in the municipality of Kościelisko in the powiat Tatrzański .
geography
The valley is a side valley of the Dolina Chochołowska . It is located in the Furkaska massif .
etymology
The name can be translated as "Long Valley" and comes from the Długa Polana mountain pasture .
Flora and fauna
The valley lies below the tree line and is overgrown by coniferous forest. The valley is a retreat for numerous mammals and bird species.
climate
There is a high mountain climate in the valley.
Alpine farming
Before the Tatra National Park was established in 1954, the valley was used for alpine farming. The alpine pastures in the valley were the largest in the Tatras. After that, the owners of the alpine pastures were expropriated or forced to sell. The valley belonged to the Jaworzyna pod Furkaską mountain pasture .
