Dolmen of the Claps
The Dolmen des Claps (also called Dolmen de La Colette ) is a dolmen south of Escragnolles in the Alpes-Maritimes department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The dolmen was classified as a Monument historique in 1921 .
The dolmen has a chamber measuring 1.5 mx 1.3 m, which is delimited on the north, east and south sides by limestone slabs . The ceiling plate was destroyed, a large fragment lies next to the chamber. The southern side plate measures approximately 2.0 mx 2.8 m and is longer than the chamber. One of the plates that was originally at the entrance to the chamber is in the chamber. To the west is a corridor about 3.0 m long and 1.2 m wide. It consists of a plate and dry masonry . Some blocks on the tumulus are likely relocated elements of the corridor. The dolmen lies in a tumulus 10.5 m in diameter.
The archaeological finds in the dolmen excavated by Chiris consist of beads made of various materials, arrowheads and scrapers that seem to come from the Chalcolithic period , and a pierced tooth.
Nearby is the Dolmen de la Colle in the Var department .
