Location of Libourne

The not easy to find dolmens of Bellefond (also called Dolmen of Sabatey) are located close together in the forest near the Sabatey Farm, north of Bellefond and east of Bordeaux in the Arrondissement de Langon in the Gironde department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

Dolmen Sabatey 1

The Dolmen Sabatey 1 is, even if it doesn't seem so at first glance, the remnant of an approximately 6 m long and 1.5 m wide allée couverte with a tilted capstone that carries a few bowls and a few fallen stones. One capstone is in situ , others have fallen into the chamber.

Dolmen Sabatey 2

The Dolmen Sabatey 2 is about 25 m away and is a large pile of moss-covered stones, the remains of an allée couverte . The only surviving capstone measuring around 3.2 × 1.7 m has slipped and lies on the chamber stones, many of which are still there.

The galleries were excavated by Leo Droun in 1870 and by François Daleau (1845–1927) in 1879. The grave goods found consist of flint , human bones (including a tooth), pottery shards and two fragments of an unspecified bone object.

Nearby is the Curton Dolmen .
