Cambous dolmen

The Dolmen of Cambous is located next to the open-air museum " Site préhistorique de Cambous " northeast of Viols-le-Fort near Montpellier in the Hérault department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The type of system called “Tombe ovale” by Bruno Marc lies in a round cairn around ten meters in diameter, around which are two concentric circles made of hewn stones. In the middle there is a two by one meter large chamber, which was built from dry masonry except for the end stone and two entrance stones . There are no signs of a capstone.

Bruno Marc examined 20 oval systems in the Herault. He considers them a testimony to the arrival of new peoples or rites of the Copper and Bronze Ages in Languedoc . The only innovative thing about the facilities is their oval shape (e.g. "Tombe ovale de Boussagues", "Tombes ovales du Truc de Marti", "Tombe ovale des Camps", " Dolmen von Cazarils ", "Tombe ovale Garrigue Gourmande" ", The Escout tumulus with the oval dolmen" Peyrecor II ").
