The dolomite rock flower ( Draba dolomitica ) is a representative of the rock flower ( Draba ) that occurs only in a limited area of ​​the Eastern Alps .

features

The Dolomites Whitlowgrass is a perennial , herbaceous plant . It reaches heights of 1 to 4 cm. The leaves are in dense, spherical rosettes and are linear-lanceolate to lanceolate-ovate, hardly keeled and up to 4 mm wide. The flower stalks are not leafed.

The petals are sulfur yellow to whitish. Stamens and petals are about the same length. Flowering time is June to August, pollination takes place by insects or self-pollination . The fruit is a 4 to 7 mm long pod .

Occurrence

The dolomite rock flower occurs only in a small area of ​​the Eastern Alps: in the Brenner area in North and South Tyrol, in the Dolomites and in the Brenta group . It is seldom to very rare, in Austria it is considered endangered.

It grows in the alpine heights on level to slightly inclined limestone rubble soils and in limestone corridors. In terms of plant sociology, it reaches its optimum in the association of the Thlaspion rotundifolii.

Systematics

The dolomite rock flower is an allotetraploid species that originated from the two parent species Draba fladnizensis and Draba hoppeana . Their chromosome number is 2n = 32.
