The Dolomitenstadion is a sports facility in Lienz / East Tyrol in the state of Tyrol , Austria . It is used both as an athletics stadium for various clubs and schools and for the organization of other competitive competitions (fire brigade, brass band, etc.), but is primarily known as the home of the Lienz football clubs and is currently used in this function by Rapid Lienz Tirol Milch .
The Dolomitenstadion was built in 1964/65 under the then mayor Hubert Huber and under the direction of senior building officer Alfred Thenius . Still in a provisional state, it was handed over to the SV Rapid Lienz club, which was active in the Carinthian sub-league (fourth highest division) at the time, which won the championship final in 1963/64 against FC Seebach from Villach in front of 1,800 spectators with 5: 1 (2: 1) won and was able to celebrate promotion to the regional league.
The official opening took place in July 1965 with the game of SV Rapid Lienz against the old Austrian international with Musil ( SK Rapid Wien ), Stanek ( Wiener Sport-Club ), Haummer ( SC Wacker Wien ), Reiter ( FK Austria Wien ), Ernst Ocffekt ( Austria), Gernhardt (Rapid), Herbert Grohs ( First Vienna FC 1894 ), Friedrich Kominek (Austria), Erich Probst (Rapid), Wilhelm Hahnemann ( SK Admira Wien ) and Höfer (Austria), which the local club surprisingly clearly does 7: 1 (3: 1) won.
In the years 1969-1976 first league football was played in the Dolomitenstadion for 7 seasons and in local games as well as in ÖFB cup battles against WSG Swarovski Wattens in 1969 or the 2-0 success in 1971 against the Grazer AK with just over 3000 spectators Capacity maxed out. The attendance figures of these second division years were only reached again in the late 1980s with the cup games against FC Swarovski Tirol .
In 1998 the stadium was completely renovated, the cloakroom wing, cafe, office space and cashier wing as well as the athletics facility were rebuilt, and the way for players and referees from the changing rooms to the field was separated from the audience by a steel bridge. This gives the stadium today's appearance with just over 1000 uncovered seats (wooden benches), a playing field with floodlights, a training field, a hard court mini-field for other sports and a modern athletics facility with a plastic running track.
In 1999, three football teams - SV Rapid, ASV and UKAJ Lienz - were still active in the stadium, but after bankruptcy, re-establishment and mergers, only one team, Rapid Lienz Tirol Milch , is based there, which is currently active in the Carinthian regional league.
