The Dominamühle , also known as Obermühle or Ölmühle , is a listed former watermill in the Althaldensleben district of the city of Haldensleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

The former mill is located at Thomas-Müntzer-Straße 1, west of the Althaldensleben monastery . The swan pond , which is already part of the Althaldensleben-Hundisburg landscape park, extends west of the mill . The Untermühle is around 200 meters to the east (along the course of the former Mühlenbebers) .

Architecture and history

The mill was one of seven mills belonging to the Althaldensleben monastery. After being destroyed in the Thirty Years War , it was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century.

Today's two-storey mill was built in the Baroque style in 1790 and operated by the artificially created mill Beber branching off from the Beber . The ground floor is in the massive construction of greywacke - rubble built. The upper floor was built in half-timbered construction using oak. The compartments are lined with bricks. The building is covered by a high hip roof .

The mill was operated as a flour mill until the beginning of the 19th century. The proceeds went to the abbess of the monastery, who was also known as Domina, from which the name of the mill derives. Johann Gottlob Nathusius then took over the mill and had it converted into an oil mill . The mill wheel was overshot . The plant operated as a mill until the beginning of the 20th century.

The mill then fell into disrepair. The city council of Haldensleben decided not to make any investments to maintain the facility. From 1978 Hartmut Neumann tried to convert the mill into a residential building . Today the building has been renovated and is used as a residential building.

In the local register of monuments , the mill is registered as an architectural monument under registration number 094 84395 .
