Dominic Anthony "Tony" Antonelli (born August 23, 1967 in Detroit ) is a former American astronaut .

He was born in Detroit and grew up in Indiana and North Carolina . He is married and has two children. He graduated from Douglas Byrd High School BS, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Washington .

Military career

Antonelli served as Naval Aviator and Landing Signal Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and flew the F / A-18C in support of Operation Southern Watch .

Antonelli has spent over 3,200 hours in 41 different types of aircraft and landed on an aircraft carrier 273 times. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Test Pilot School .

NASA career

In July 2000 he was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA. Antonelli served in various technical tasks until he was assigned to a mission. On October 19, 2007, NASA announced that he would be a pilot for the STS-119 mission . During this space shuttle mission, the last solar cell element on the ISS was brought into space. The launch took place on March 15, 2009. The STS-119 mission ended successfully on March 28, 2009 with the landing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

On May 14, 2010, Antonelli started his second space flight as a pilot of the space shuttle Atlantis on the STS-132 mission . The landing took place on May 26, 2010.

Antonelli left NASA on July 10, 2015.

Private

Antonelli is married and has two children.
