Sir Dominick Chilcott KCMG (born November 17, 1959 ) is a British diplomat .

Life

He studied at St Joseph's College in Ipswich and served a year in the Royal Navy . He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy and theology from Greyfriars Hall, University of Oxford in 1982 . He was Private Secretary for European, Transatlantic and Middle East Affairs, Advisor for External Affairs at the Permanent Mission of the British Government to the European Union in Brussels. From 1982 to 1984 he was a clerk for South Africa in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). He headed the Iraq department at the FCO . His areas of expertise are Africa, Ankara, Gibraltar, Lisbon, the European Union, the Middle East, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

In 2006 Dominick Chilcott became High Commissioner in Sri Lanka. In January 2008 he became Deputy Ambassador to Washington, DC From October to November 2011 Dominick Chilcott was Ambassador to Tehran. In 2011 he became the British Ambassador to Ireland .

He married Elizabeth Bromage in 1983 and they have a daughter and three sons.
