Hagenring
The Hagenring is a federation of visual artists and a registered association based in Hagen. The Hagenring operates its own exhibition rooms in the Wippermann-Passage in the Hagen-Eilpe district.
history
The Künstlerbund Hagenring was founded in Hagen in 1924 . The establishment is to be seen in close connection with the death of the art patron Karl Ernst Osthaus . The impetus that Osthaus gave to the artistic and cultural development of the city of Hagen threatened to be lost after his death. Especially after the sale of the Folkwang Museum's art collections to the city of Essen. Osthaus' concern to demonstrate the compatibility of art and life in an industrial city in Hagen was also a guiding principle for the foundation of the Hagenring.
According to the statutes, the goals of the Hagenring include, in particular, the promotion of art in the sense of the German Museum for Art in Trade and Industry, founded by Osthaus in 1909.
With an interruption during the Second World War, the artist association is still active today. It currently has 34 active members. (As of 2018)
