Heinrich Holthaus

Heinrich Holthaus (born June 29, 1903 in Hagen ; † November 6, 1980 ibid) was a German sculptor . In his hometown he worked as an artist, preferably with the materials bronze and artificial stone.

In 1926 he began an apprenticeship at a bank, then studied Protestant theology, philosophy and art history in Münster , and from 1930 sculpture at the art academies in Hamburg and Berlin .

In 1939 he received a Kassel grant, in 1940 a grant from the Kölner Kunstverein. From 1941 on he was in military service and until 1946 in captivity. From 1946 he lived as a freelance sculptor in Plettenberg before he returned to his hometown in 1953. There he was a member of the artists' association Hagenring , and in 1978 the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum in Hagen dedicated a solo exhibition to him. Since studying theology in Münster in 1930, he was close friends with the later painter Hubert Berke . In 1969 they had a group exhibition in the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum in Hagen. Both belonged to the circle of acquaintances of the constitutional lawyer Carl Schmitt, who lived in Plettenberg .
