Count Dominik Teleki von Szék (born September 5, 1773 in Sáromberke near Marosvásárhely in Transylvania , Kingdom of Hungary ; † September 16, 1798 ) was a Hungarian nobleman, lawyer and travel writer.

Life

Dominik Graf Teliki von Szék was the son of Samuel Graf Teleki de Szék (1739-1822) and Susanna Bethlen von Iktár († 1797). His siblings were Maria Szeki Grof Teleki († 1801) and Ferenc Graf Teleki de Szék (1787–1861). The Teleki were an old Hungarian noble family of Protestant denomination.

At the age of six he was tutored by his tutor Martin Liptay. At the age of eight he came to the Reformed College of Maros-Vásárhely to bring him into contact with other children. He was still there under the supervision of his tutor. Two years later, when the father was transferred to Vienna and the family moved, he was tutored again by a tutor, the professor of philosophy at Enyed, Michael Berke. From 1788 he attended the University of Vienna . In 1791 his father sent him to Pesth to study law there. He then worked as a notary.

For health reasons, he gave up this post and, accompanied by a doctor, he traveled through what was then Hungary to help him relax. In 1796 he stayed in Karlsbad and made trips to Saxony from there . He was accepted as a member of the Leipzig Economic Society and the Jena Natural Research Society. In 1797 he published a travel report "Patriotic Journeys" in which he described Upper Hungary , Transylvania , Slavonia , Croatia and the Hungarian coastal region.

After three years of traveling he went back to Transylvania where he worked as k. k. Chamberlain and associate assessor at the court in Maros-Vásárhely. After the death of his mother, his health deteriorated more and more. He died eleven months later.
