Franz Arnold Graeffer (born January 7, 1785 in Vienna ; † October 8, 1852 there ) was an Austrian bibliographer and writer .

Life

Franz Gräffer, son of the bookseller August Gräffer (died 1816), first studied art at the academy, but gave up his studies and joined his father's business. He was for a time the librarian of Prince Moritz von Liechtenstein , then of Count Karl Harrach (1761–1829), later devoted himself to the publishing and antiquarian business, where he forfeited most of his fortune, and was now all the more diligent in writing. His literary works are mostly devoted to local memories in Vienna and are very instructive for understanding the inner state of Viennese literary life. In total, his work comprises around 60 volumes.

In 1913 the Gräffergasse in Vienna- Hernals was named after him.
