Life and work
After studying law and passing the state exams in Geneva and New York , she worked as an international lawyer , but from 1988 turned to theater and literature. In 1993 she founded the children's and youth acting school “Theater in der Vorburg ” in Namedy Castle on the Rhine , and worked as a writer and director for the ensemble. By the time the project was completed in 2000, six productions had been created and invited to festivals in Germany and abroad. The play Farewell, Butterfly about the Theresienstadt Ghetto was awarded the Children and Youth Culture Prize of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1998 and performed in the German Bundestag on the occasion of the commemoration day for the victims of National Socialism . Further performances follow in Theresienstadt , Prague , Tel Aviv and Jerusalem , among others .
Dominique Caillat has dedicated herself to the professional stage and literature since 2000. She deals with explosive questions and carries out extensive research . The previous topics include a. the Third Reich with the two plays Farewell, Butterfly and We belong together and prologue, scene and epilogue to the children's opera Brundibár . Another focus is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict , with the plays Kidnapping and État de piège or the book La Paix ou la mort . On the occasion of the Darwin year 2009 she deals intensively with the evolution theory of Charles Darwin and today's challenges of bioethics . This is how the stage play " Darwin's Confession ", a work commissioned by the Swiss Academy of Sciences, is created . In 2009 Dominique Caillat's libretto concept for an oratorio about the Children's Crusade of 1212 wins a work grant from the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia .
