Dominique Othenin-Girard (* 1958 in Le Locle , Canton Neuchâtel , Switzerland ) is a Swiss film director and screenwriter .

He graduated from the London Film School in 1981 and in the same year was assistant director to Karel Reisz for The Beloved of the French Lieutenant and for Alain Tanner for Les années lumière . For his first feature film After Darkness , he founded his own production company.

After a few more productions, he went to Los Angeles in 1987 and made the low- budget horror film Deliver Us From Evil in 1988 , which received critical acclaim and earned him the job of director and screenwriter on Halloween 5 (1989). In 1990 he re-established a production company in Los Angeles. In 2000 he and Rodica Doehnert received the Robert Geisendörfer Prize in the television category for directing the film " Florian - Liebe aus dem whole heart ".
