Domonkos Héja

Domonkos Héja (* 1974 in Budapest , Hungary ) is a Hungarian musician and conductor.

Life

Domonkos Héja first studied drums and piano at the Budapest Conservatory, then until 1998 drums and conducting with Ervin Lukács at the Franz Liszt Academy .

He then became a master student of Yuri Simonow and Zoltán Peskó . He also assisted conductors such as Heinz Holliger , Rudolf Barschai, Ivan Fischer, Alain Lombard, Rico Saccani, Pinchas Steinberg and Tamás Vasáry.

In 1993 he founded the Danubia Youth Symphony Orchestra, of which he is still director today.

Domonkos Héja also works as a guest conductor of the Budapesti Filharmóniai Társaság Zenekara, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra and the Matáv Hungarian Symphony Orchestra. He has also conducted concerts with the Slovak Philharmonic , the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra Kosice, the Zagreb Radio Orchestra, the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Antwerp Conservatory Orchestra and orchestras in Florence, Padua and Rome.

In 2001 he made his conducting debut at the Budapest Opera with Puccini's La Bohème . Since then he has been a regular guest. Conductors followed for Turandot , La Traviata , Rigoletto , Queen of Spades and Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk .

In 2005 he was director of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic at the Chemnitz Theater. There he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Deputy General Music Director.

On December 20, 2014 it was announced that he had been appointed as the successor of Dirk Kaftan at the Augsburg Theater as General Music Director from the 2015/16 season. His first conducting at the Augsburg Theater was the opera Der König Kandaules by Alexander Zemlinsky .
