Koalas and other relatives (original title: Don't Blame Me , also Don't Blame the Koalas ) is an Australian television series that consists of 26 25-minute episodes in one season and was shot in 2002.

action

The series revolves around the Wallaby animal park in the Australian bush, where the King family works and which, after the death of the owner Mrs. Medlow, is bequeathed to distant English relatives of theirs. The English kings, who have little idea of the use of the inherited property, actually want to sell the piece of land due to their poor financial situation and travel to Australia to do so. But things turn out differently there than they thought, and together with the Australian kings they experience some funny episodes around the zoo.

To the series

The comedy series for children was produced by Southern Star (Sydney, Australia). Only one season with 26 episodes was created. The episodes form a sequence , with a beginning and an end. However, it is possible to see the episodes in different order. The last episode ends the story and closes the plot, but leaves room for a possible sequel. A sequel was not produced.

The comedy of the series shows surreal traits, in the style of Twist total , special effects and sound effects support the actions of the characters, for example by increasing the speed of the film material while running.

The various animal appearances are an important part of the series, and so the series can also be called an animal series . The focus is on the typical Australian animals: the koala , wallabies (a small type of kangaroo ), the emu , the hunter spider , wombats , dingoes , Tasmanian devils , Australian jellyfish , a carpet snake , a toadfish or frogfish , a stick insect , a Black widow , (Australian) ticks , cockatoos , blue peacocks , white ants or termites and also crocodiles . In addition, animals that are common in Europe and are therefore well known to us also appear in the series, for example: seagulls , domestic pigs , mice , a fox and a house cat . The fact that animals play an important role in the program could already be determined by the German title, but in England the program has the title: Don't blame the koalas . And with koalas, the Australians, more precisely the Australian people, should be meant here rather than the real koalas. The 'Koalas' in the English title is probably an interpretation of the 'mir' in the Australian title: " Don't blame me ". Thus, even in the German title, Koalas could mean the Australians .

The series was in the Australian Waratah Wildlife Park ( Waratah Wildlife park ), which in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is rotated. The Waratah Game Park is located approximately 25 km north of Sydney .

Individual evidence

  1. According to the German credits of the series also written Jemma in German, but mostly written Gemma in German publications on the series
  2. see Don't Blame the Koalas (2002-2002)
  3. Gemma King's claim (in episode 25) that wallabies differ from kangaroos by the size of their feet is rather wrong. Wallabies are generally smaller than kangaroos.
  4. Gemma King is almost bitten by one of them in the second episode of the series (the taxi driver saves her from the bite)
  5. In the eleventh episode, the Australian jellyfish prevent the Kings from venturing into the water of the river.
  6. In the eleventh episode, the Kings think about eating a washed-up 'toad fish' to prevent starvation.
  7. The Kings have termites in the house in the eleventh episode.
  8. The seagull is the first animal that the English kings spot in Australia. Gabrielle King concludes that Australia is basically like England.
