Released June 21, 1989, the pop ballad became a number one hit in the United States and Brazil . It is also Estefan's first number one hit in her solo career. The song was nominated for Best Female Vocal Performance - Pop for the Grammy Awards 1990 , but lost to Nick of Time by Bonnie Raitt . A recording of the live version of the song at the 1990 Grammy Awards appeared on the 1994 album Grammy's Greatest Moments Volume I. Also nominated for the American Music Awards , but in the Favorite Pop / Rock Single category , it lost toMilli Vanillis Girl I'm Gonna Miss You . There is also a Spanish version under the title Si Voy a Perderte (German: If I lose you) and a Portuguese version under the title Se tenho que te perder (German: If I have to lose you), which, however, is in the Brazilian version of the album Into the Lights and is also very popular there on the radio.
