Don Eddy
Don Eddy (born November 4, 1944 in Long Beach , California ) is an American painter who is best known for his paintings from the 1970s in the hyperrealistic style.
life and work
Don Eddy studied from 1965 to 1970 at Fullerton Junior College in California, at the University of Hawaii at Honolulu and the University of California at Santa Barbara . In 1968 he had his first solo exhibition at the Kranin Gallery in Honolulu. Eddy has been a lecturer at the University of California and New York University since 1972 . In the same year he took part in documenta 5 in Kassel , and in 1977 he also took part in documenta 6 .
Eddy paints in a hyper-realistic style from photographic templates, whereby he is best known for his pictures of car details such as chrome bumpers, rims and hoods with reflections as well as for urban depictions. Since the 1970s, he has also been painting window pictures, through which he can connect consumer goods with the urban environment. In his more modern works, however, the focus is no longer on realism, but on metaphysics.
