Donald Lloyd "Don" Freeland (born March 25, 1925 in Los Angeles , California - † November 2, 2007 in San Diego , California) was an American racing driver .
Career
Freeland served as a mechanic in the Navy during World War II . Shortly after the war, he began to drive smaller races.
Freeland had 76 starts in the AAA National and USAC series between 1952 and 1962 . He could never achieve a victory. He finished second three times. 1956 was third overall in the first championship held under the aegis of the USAC. In the Indianapolis 500 , he competed eight times. In 1956 he achieved his best placement with third place in a Phillips Offenhauser. In 1955 he retired with a clutch damage with 22 laps to go, lying in second place. Since the 500 miles were part of the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960 , Freeland was also at the start in eight races. With his third place in 1956 he reached a total of four World Cup points.
