Don John (* 1981 ) is a Danish street artist. He became known for his large murals on gable walls in various Danish cities as well as in Berlin , Hamburg and Reykjavík . He also appears at exhibitions around the world.

Life

Don John grew up in a small town on the Danish island of Funen .

Act

One theme that runs through Don John's work is the relationships and interactions between humans and animals and their transformation. Don John's preferred techniques are stencils and linocuts . His passion is large-scale graffiti on the street.

Many of his works can be seen in Denmark. So he designed u. a. in Odense the mural HC Andersen (2013), which depicts the face of the city's most famous child, the storyteller Hans Christian Andersen , in a stylized form. The work Creativity is Freedom (2014) can be seen from afar in Rentemestervej in the Bispebjerg district of Copenhagen . Another geographical focus of Don John is Berlin . There at Mehringplatz in the Kreuzberg district he designed a. a. as part of Urban Nation's “One Wall” project, the well-known work Hoodie Birds (2014): It depicts a person in a dark hooded sweater who buries their hands in their pockets; colorful birds fly away from the unrecognizable face. The work was later vandalized by red paint bags .
