Donacaula is a genus of butterflies from the family of the Crambidae (Crambidae).
features
The moths have ocelles , which are often covered by scales. The antennae of the males are ciliated. The cilia can be of different lengths; in Donacaula forficella they reach about 2 millimeters in length while in Donacaula niloticus they are only 0.5 millimeters long. The maxillary palps are scaled like a brush. The proboscis is only rudimentarily developed. The labial palps are longer than the head and thorax combined. The spur formula of the genus is 0-2-4 (front, middle, rear tibia), the epiphysis tibialis is developed. The wing veins R 3 and R 4 are petiolate on the front wings .
The R 2 artery is not connected to the cell in Donacaula forficella and Donacaula nilotica . In Donacaula mucronella , the R 2 vein is stalked with R 3 + R 4 .
In the female, the apical frenulum consists of three fused bristles.
In males, the uncus is short, the gnathos is short and hook-shaped. The subteguminal process is narrow and protrudes ventrally . The scale-like appendages ( coremata ) at the base of the valves are only slightly sclerotized .
In females, the corpus bursae is spherical or elongated. The apophyses are strong. The ovipositor is slimmer than that of the genus Schoenobius .
distribution
The genus is native to the Palearctic , Oriental and Neotropical .
