Donald Baker

Donald Bäcker (born May 14, 1968 in Neuruppin , Potsdam district , GDR ) is a German moderator and synoptic meteorologist . He appears in the ARD morning magazine and is one of the moderators of the show Weather before eight .

Life

Baker's enthusiasm for the weather awoke in the record winter of 1978/1979 in the face of up to two meter high snowdrifts and complete isolation.

From 1984 to 1987 he completed his training as a technical assistant for meteorology at the Neuruppin weather station and in Potsdam . He worked at the Neuruppin weather station until 1997, most recently as a civil servant for life and studied at the same time at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration .

From 1999 he worked with Jörg Kachelmann at Meteofax / Meteomedia , with a short break, which is now MeteoGroup through a company takeover . He then moved to the Munich-based company Cumulus Media GmbH. There he creates and presents alternately with the moderators Claudia Kleinert , Sven Plöger and Karsten Schwanke weather reports and reports, currently mainly for the ARD morning magazine.

In 2020 he appeared on the game show Did you know? as an expert on the subject of Hurtigruten .

Baker is the father of two children.

Awards

On the occasion of the third “Summit of Weather Frogs” in 2009, a contribution by Baker was recognized as the best weather presentation on German-language television in 2009 .
