Donald Bruce Redford (born September 2, 1934 ) is a Canadian Egyptologist and archaeologist and Professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and Histories at Pennsylvania State University . He is married to Susan Redford , who is also an Egyptologist.

Redford studied at McGill University and the University of Toronto . He directed several important excavations, particularly in Karnak and Mendes . Since 1975 he has also headed the Akhenaten Temple Project , which aims, among other things, to reconstruct the arrangement of the Talatat blocks from which the temples and buildings were constructed in the Amarna period, especially under Akhenaten .

1993 won Redford the prize for the best scientific book in archeology from the Biblical Archeology Society for his work Egypt, Canaan, and Israel in Ancient Times. In this book, he argues that the Hyksos experience became the central foundation of myths in Canaanite culture that led to the tale of Moses . He also argues that the topographical details in the Exodus narrative represented the situation of Egypt during the 26th Dynasty . Thus, for the authors of the Exodus, no earlier sources than those of the 7th century BC. Were available.
