Donald Kaberry, Baron Kaberry of Adel ( August 18, 1907 , † March 13, 1991 ) was a British Conservative Party politician and life peer .

Life

Kaberry attended Leeds Grammar School and then practiced as a lawyer. From 1930 he was a member of the Leeds City Council before he fought as an officer in World War II from 1940 . He served in the Royal Artillery , was mentioned in the official war report ( Mentioned in Despatches ) and received the award of Territorial Decoration .

After the war he was initially stationed in Hamburg during the British occupation . There he was president of a military tribunal before which the German boxer Max Schmeling , among others , had to answer for false statements. Kaberry read out Schmeling's acquittal.

After returning to the United Kingdom, Kaberry was again a council member in Leeds from 1946 to 1951. In the parliamentary elections in 1950 he was able to prevail in the electoral district of North-West Leeds and took a place in the House of Commons , which he would keep until 1983.

On January 28, 1960 he was given the hereditary title of Baronet , of Adel cum Eccup in the City of Leeds. After leaving the House of Commons, he was raised to Life Peer on September 23, 1983 with the title Baron Kaberry of Adel , of Adel in the City of Leeds, and thereby received a seat in the House of Lords .

In June 1990 he was injured in an IRA bombing of the Carlton Club in London . He died on March 13, 1991.

Kaberry had been married since 1940 and had three sons. His eldest son Christopher Donald Kaberry inherited the title of baronet.
