The area is also part of the FFH area 7232-301 "Danube with Jura slopes between Leitheim and Neuburg" and the SPA area 7231-471 "Donauauen between the mouth of the Lech and Ingolstadt" and is therefore subject to the guidelines of the Natura 2000 guidelines .

Below the Danube side with a southern slope lies an oxbow lake of the Danube, which is partly fed with groundwater. The agriculturally unsuitable location in a slight bend in the Danube has received diverse water and silting vegetation in which hardwood floodplains are preserved as remains. Despite the partly directly adjacent canal bed of the Danube, small-scale softwood stocks have also been preserved in areas that are less often flooded.

Due to its proximity, the area is a valuable addition to the neighboring barrages Feldheim and Bertoldsheim as bird sanctuaries in the Ramsar area “ Lech-Donau-Winkel ” as resting, breeding and habitat for even rare water birds, which like to take the protected area as resting and wintering places. In connection with the agriculturally used meadow areas and orchards directly to the north, there is a lush and diverse fauna and flora in the alluvial forest, the shallow water zones and bank areas.
