Donkey Kong Jet Race (in North America Donkey Kong Barrel Blast , in Japan Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race (ド ン キ ー コ ン グ た る ジ ェ ッ ッ ト レ ー ス)) is a racing game for the Wii game console . The game was developed by the Japanese studio Paon and distributed by Nintendo . The gameplay is similar to that of Mario Kart , the playable characters come from the Donkey Kong series. On the one hand, eight members of the Kong family can be played, and on the other, eight partly newly developed Kremlings . Donkey Kong Jet Race can be seen as the unofficial successor to Diddy Kong Racing published in 1997 .
Gameplay
Originally, Donkey Kong Jet Race should have appeared on the GameCube and used the DK Bongos . One of the game's working titles was also DK: Bongo Blast . The game should have been controlled by the drumming on the bongo controller. After the developer decided to publish the game for Wii , the DK Bongos were replaced by Wii remote controls and Nunchuk . The player has to shake them to control the characters. Jumps can be performed by lifting the remote control and nunchuk. Other gestures with the Wii controller can also be used to move opponents and obstacles out of the way, and items can also be used.
criticism
Donkey Kong Jet Race received mostly negative ratings from the trade press. On the website Metacritic , which collects reviews from various specialist magazines and uses them to calculate an average, the game only scored 46 points. The websites GameSpot and IGN gave the game only 4.5 out of 10.0 points. The US-American GamePro even brought the game to number 1 in a ranking of the worst video games of 2007. The German magazine M! Games , however, gave the game 79 out of 100 points.
Donkey Kong Jet Race was criticized for its slow gameplay, little depth and an overall boring gaming experience.
